This River has a world famous reputation for top level Kayakists. The brand new slalom course at Bourg St Maurice hosted the world canoe-kayak championships in 2004. Its source is at the Iseran mountain pass and it is alimented by the snow melt of the glaciers of the Vanoise National Park which turn it into a surging torrent. The river is controlled by the hydro-electric dam at Tignes which regulates the water releases between the beginning of may until the end of september.
The section between Bourg Saint Maurice and Centron offers a amazing variety of whitewater with the notorious Aime rapids in the middle of the trip followed by the stunning Pucelle Gorge and finishing with the Centron rapids. The 22 km run between Bourg St Maurice and Centron contains rapid from class II to IV (European scale) and runs through the spectacular Virgin’s Gorge. We are able to run trips for all level from families to experienced paddlers.
